Doris "Jean" passed away on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014, at the age of 88. She was a fragile fighter at the time, battling medical issues while aging with good humor and a loving family.

Jean grew up with 5 siblings in Lincoln Park, Michigan, where she met her husband of 65 years, Dale Cools, in high school. Dale thought she was "sure swell." They married in 1945 and together raised 4 children: Gayle (Ric) Altobellis, Gary (Judy) Cools, Janet (Rick) Zarebski, and Brian Cools. In the early 70s they moved from Lincoln Park to Trenton where they became involved in the First Presbyterian Church, a source of many special memories and friendships. Jean retired from Trenton Public Schools having nurtured many young minds as a paraprofessional and tutor. Her vivid imagination and sense of humor was a gift that lives on in the easy smiles of her children. After retirement, Jean and Dale moved to Holt, Michigan, and made more friends while enjoying a neighborhood in the country. Jean liked to paint and favored the Beatles over Lawrence Welk.

Jean is survived by her 4 children and her grandchildren Christie (Jim), Christopher (Kristen), Eric, Tony, Laura (Craig), and Derek, her great granddaughter Alyssa, and her loving "little sister" Donna Morcom along with many wonderful in-laws, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the , 1755 Abbey Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823 or the of Michigan, 1169 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48108 would be an appreciated way to recognize the challenges she and her family faced in life.

Jean's Celebration of Life will be held July 19, 2014 in Trenton, MI. For more information contact the family. She will rest in peace next to Dale Cools at Michigan Memorial Cemetery, Flat Rock, MI.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing. On line condolences or memories of Jean may be shared with the family at www.greastlansing.com.
