Doris Amelia Scott Miree was born on January 2, 1941, in Montgomery, Alabama. She died on May 11, 2014, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She married Thomas J. Miree on July 18, 1965, in Philadelphia, PA and they had two daughters. Doris received a B.S. in Business Education from Alabama State University and after her relocation to Ann Arbor, MI, she received Master's degrees from Eastern Michigan University and Marygrove College. She was a dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and upon her retirement from the Van Buren School District, she learned to quilt and became a member of GLAAQN, her favorite quilting group. Doris Amelia Scott Miree was born on January 2, 1941, in Montgomery, Alabama. She died on May 11, 2014, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She married Thomas J. Miree on July 18, 1965, in Philadelphia, PA and they had two daughters. Doris received a B.S. in Business Education from Alabama State University and after her relocation to Ann Arbor, MI, she received Master's degrees from Eastern Michigan University and Marygrove College. She was a dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and upon her retirement from the Van Buren School District, she learned to quilt and became a member of GLAAQN, her favorite quilting group. Doris was always active in the church. She played piano as a child for her home church in Montgomery, AL and she taught Sunday School in Philadelphia, PA. She was also a longtime member of Bethel AME Church in Ann Arbor, MI where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and played piano for the 8:00 a.m. service and the Sunday School. She was most recently a member of Brown Chapel AME Church in Ypsilanti, MI. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Willie Scott and Mary Louise Scott and several aunts and uncles. She leaves to mourn, her devoted husband of 48 years, Thomas J. Miree. Also surviving are her two daughters, Kimberly (Joe) Washington of Stone Mountain, GA and Cynthia (Addington) Coppin of Rochester Hills, MI; five grandchildren, Jonathan Thomas Washington, Kelsey Elaine Washington, Nathaniel Coppin, Emmanuel Coppin, and Michael Coppin; sisters, Ella (Carniece) Reevers, Carol (Darryl) Burr; brothers, Willie Earl (Forchetta) Scott, Benjamin Thaddeus (Linda) Scott; sisters-in-law, Jessie Ovetta Parker, Ollie Miree Polk, and Mildred Miree; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She also leaves behind special and longtime friends who were more like family: Doris Anderson, Lillian Barbour, Cynthia Brubaker, Andrew Calhoun, Gloria Arrington Ford, Katie James, Charlie Hardy, Doris Harris, Sanjeanetta Harris, Priscilla Holley, Merti Hubbard, Elaine Lambert, Bennie Reasor, Kawana Smith, Janet Sutton and many others. Arrangements under the direction of Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor, MI.
