Dot was born June 20, 1923, to Vann Clifford and Iva Ouida Pritchard Magee in Water Valley, Mississippi. She moved to Memphis with her family in 1930. Dot attended A.B. Hill Elementary and South Side High School, graduating from South Side in 1941. After high school she worked as a long distance telephone operator and then as a cost and rate clerk for F.G. Barton Cotton Company, a job she fondly remembered in later years. After her marriage in 1947 she was a full time homemaker until 1974 when she began working as a teacher's assistant with special needs children for Memphis City Schools, mostly at Avon Lenox School. She retired from MCS in 1990.
Dot married Woodrow W. Yager of Moscow, Tennessee, on October 25, 1947. Except for short periods in Georgia and Alabama they lived in Memphis until Woodrow's death in 1975.
In addition to her husband, Dot was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Sarah May Magee Givens and Ouida Ruth Magee Moore; and brother Van Pritchard Magee. She is survived by her son Wilson M. "Mike" Yager (Mary) and daughter Melanie Y. Williams (Stephen); five grandchildren and five great grandchildren as follows: Matthew E. Yager (Leslie) and daughters Eleanor and Marjorie; Emily Y. Christensen (Graham); Susan M. Yager; Rachel Williams Lanoue and daughters Jordyn and Ashlyn and son Maverick; and Stephen J. A quiet, reserved woman Dot was known for her sweet, caring nature. She enjoyed sewing and made many of her own and Melanie's clothes. Listening to classical music and reading, especially the Bible, historical novels, and mysteries, were favorite pastimes. She loved dogs and always enjoyed their company.
Dot was a steadfast member of the Church of Christ from childhood and a faithful and active member of the White Station congregation in Memphis for over 55 years.
The funeral service will be 10:00am Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at White Station Church of Christ, 1106 Colonial Road, Memphis. Interment will be 2:00pm at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 8065 Yager Road, Moscow, Tennessee.
