Dorothy Anway Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 15, 2016.

Born April 15, 1937 to Leon and Myna (Lundy) Anway in Mason, Michigan, passed away on October 15, 2016 at the age of 79. Dorothy was a cancer "warrior" and fought a long, hard battle all while keeping her unique sense of humor and making family, friends, neighbors and medical staff laugh right up to the end of her life. Those close to Dorothy will forever remember some of her favorite sayings as "How do you like me now?", "Ta-Da!", "Are you having fun yet?" and "Heyyyyy, it's your Grambo!".
Family will carry on her delicious taco salad, homemade noodles and mouth-watering homemade apple pies. She will also be remembered for making family events out of lunches, picnics, watching "American Ninja Warrior" and "Keeping Up with the Kardashians". Others will remember their TV time with her watching "Judge Judy" and "The Young and the Restless".
She loved and adored her home and her family, as well as enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She found comfort in the end of her cancer battle with oyster crackers, grilled cheese sandwiches, fried zucchini, PBJ's and her sweets.
Dorothy impacted almost every single person she encountered right down to her medical staff in the last six months of her life. In the end, she found warmth and compassion in her surgeon, Dr. Troy Ferguson, who kept her comfortable throughout the last few months of her life. She said many times, "He saved my life!". Dr. Ferguson was as touched by Dorothy, as she was of him. The family is forever grateful to him for that.
Dorothy was a loving daughter, sister, mother, granddaughter, aunt and friend that will be dearly missed. Dorothy spent most of her life in the Mason area where many families in the community were blessed to have known her as a friend.
Through her love and faith in Jesus Christ, Dorothy is now comfortable and spending eternal life with God and her family who preceded her in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Leon Anway Jr. and Ray Anway. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Kendrick; daughters Gail Burch, Vicki (Bob) Dehring, Billie (Rick) Baker, Janis Whitaker, Debbie (Jeff the Magic Man) Town and Lisa Kirby Carter, 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, as well as many nephews, nieces and her sister-in-law, Karen Anway.
A graveside service will be held at 2:45 pm, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mason. Those desiring, may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, 1755 Abbey Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823 or to the Raynor Park Fund, City of Mason, 201 W. Ash St., Mason, MI 48854.
