Dorothy Marie Naumann, 73, of Oxnard, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on July 30, 2017, at Cottage Hospital, in Santa Barbara surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 28, 1944, in Camden, New Jersey and was the eldest child of three born to John Park and Clara Marie Chalmers. She attended Pennsauken High School and graduated from the High School's 1st graduating class.
At age 18, the lure of adventure called and she joined the WAVES (women's branch of the US Naval Reserve). During this time, she met and married the love of her life and husband of 55 years, Richard Naumann.
After her discharge, Dorothy dedicated her life to her family as a stay at home mom, raising a son Jason and two daughters Christine and Brenda and travelling around the world with her husband's career to such places as Mojacar, Spain; Aberdeen, Scotland; and London, England. During her time in Scotland, Dorothy studied for and attained her private pilots' license. Upon returning to the US in 1984 and settling in Ventura County, Dorothy worked as a customer service representative before retiring in 2005. Dorothy's passions were her family, golfing, gardening and her dogs.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Rick; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Kirk Ellis of Thousand Oaks and Christine and Stephen Brown of Camarillo; grandson, Owen Brown of Camarillo; brother and sister-in-law, John and Linda Chalmers of New Jersey; brother, Guy Chalmers of New Jersey; mother-in-law, June Naumann; and her latest rescue pup "Scruffy."
She is preceded in death by her son, Jason; her parents; father-in-law, George Naumann; and her brother-in-law, Bill Naumann.
A public Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, at the Wedgewood Banquet Center, 5880 Olivas Park Drive, in Ventura. The family is planning a private internment ceremony at Ivy Lawn.

I knew Rick, Dorothy and the girls from when they lived in the UK and have such happy memories of the fun times we had together. We lost contact many years ago and I have only just found out the sad news of Dorothy's death. I still make Seven Layer Dip the way she taught me! She was simply fantastic and I send an enormous hug to Rick, Brenda and Christine with love from Jackie Lee-Mahoney (nee Senior).

There are no words, that I can express, that will ease the pain and loss you feel at this time, Rick. But today and in the future take comfort and support from family and friends who knew you as a couple and shared in making the wonderful memories you have made over the 55 years of marriage.
Dorothy was a fun loving person, with a vibrant personality, and a wicked sense of humour, with that special ability to put people at ease and bring laughter and joy to all who spent time with her.
We first met when you lived in Aberdeen and were introduced through our offspring, Christine and Stephen who eventually married and moved to America. When we came on holiday to visit them in California.... you, Dorothy, Gordon and I met up on several occasions.. as recently as this July, at Owens football and his birthday party.
It, therefore, came as a great shock to hear of Dorothy's sudden death, so soon after our return home. Gordon and I will remember her fondly and our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Take care, Rick. Love Helen and Gordon.

To my shipmate Frog, Bev and I are so sorry for your loss of Dottie, your best friend and love of your life. I remember meeting Dottie in my Navy days while aboard the USS Semmes and being invited to your home in Charleston. It was great to have home cooked meals and lots of laughter and Dottie's quick whit.
I remember when you guys came to Pa. to visit my brand new wife Bev and me, and our trip to an amusement park where our wives, Dottie, Bev and Delores (chickie's wife) had their pictures taken together. We still have the picture, and the girls posed for a new picture at our 2008 Navy reunion.
We all lost touch of each other as the years passed, but never forgot. I'm so glad Bev convinced me to attend the 2008 Semmes reunion in nASHVILLE, WHEN bEV AND I WALKED INTO THE RESTAURANT AND SAW ALL YOU GUYS SITTING AT THE TABLE, I HEARD dOTTIE SAY "wELL HELLO HANDSOME" AND A FLOOD OF EMOTIONS CAME OVER ALL OF US.
rEST IN pEACE dOTTIE, WE LOVE AND MISS YOU.
