Born in Butler, Missouri, she was the third of four siblings. After graduating from Butler High School she married her high school sweetheart, Franklin Lankford. They were married on June 13th, 1943 and celebrated 73 years of marriage before he preceded her in death just over a year ago.
Immediately after their marriage during wartime, Franklin was required to travel to several duty stations for training. Dorothy had to secretly follow along and find housing arrangements and employment. Being painfully shy this was a great challenge for her. This had to be done in secret because Frank was not permitted to be married at the time. When the Navy did find out, an understanding officer looked the other way.
After the war ended, Dorothy spent her years as a wife, mother, and grandmother and was greatly devoted to her family and her church. She was an outstanding cook and homemaker and was always gracious to anyone she would meet. Dorothy was a determined, independent, kind and generous person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Julie and son-in-law Craig Taylor, four grandchildren, John, Anne, Eric, and Rose, as well as nephews and niece, John, Steve, Robert and Kathy. She was preceded in death by son Franklin (Frankie), brother Virgil Thornburg, sister Yvonne Wilson, brother Earl Thornburg and nephew Mike Thornburg.

Words cannot express the great joy that is mine to have been the Pastor and Friend of Dorothy and Frank Lankford. Their dedication and Faith in God and support of those they knew was exceptional. The love of family was the great joy of their lives. As we celebrate the passing on of Dorothy and share with Julie, Craig , children and all the family our love as they live out their lives under the influence of Dorothy and Frank.
