Obituary

Dorothy Ann Garris Allen, 77, died Sunday at Duke Raleigh Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was also an avid gardener and shopper and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Dorothy Ann Garris Allen, 77, died Sunday at Duke Raleigh Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was also an avid gardener and shopper and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Edward Louis Allen; sons, Glen Allen and wife Maria and Scott Allen and wife Megan of Raleigh; daughters, Rose Summerlin and husband Bruce of Garner, Ann Thomas and husband Bill of Raleigh and Donna Lewis and husband Jim of Whitsett; sisters, Naomi Buck and husband Garland and Peggy Haddock and husband O.C. of Greenville; fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Ethel Garris, her brother, Frank Garris and her sister, Nadine Buck.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 pm on Wednesday.
