DOROTHY M. BARNEY MERRILLVILLE, IN Dorothy Barney, age 87, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2013. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, George B. Barney; children: Betty (late Alan) Burns, Peggy (Charles) Marshall, and Burnes (Julie) Barney; grandchildren: Ginger, Susan, Laura, Charles, Aislinn, Stuart, Emily, and Katie; great grandmother of nine. Also survived by her sister, Jean Cole. Preceded in death by her siblings: Edith, Wilma and William. Dorothy was a baker for Harding Elementary School in Hammond for 20 plus years. She enjoyed baking, crafts, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served as Secretary of the Relief Society and typed the weekly bulletin for many years. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Ave Schererville, IN). Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

I'm so sorry to hear about Aunt Dorothy's passing. I remember her working in the church library, making her famous Christmas rosettes, and when she and Uncle George would come to our house every Christmas day afternoon to see what we got as gifts. She was quiet but always kind and smiling. The photos in the gallery here brought back a lot of memories of her.

God bless you and give you strength. Sister Barney was a sweet, kind person who always had a smile and nice things to say. She is with the Lord now and is preparing to be reunited with all of you someday. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. Keep all those beautiful memories and cherish them close to your heart, for his is the place that you will find her.
