Dorothy Jeanette Fowler Brown
11/26/1925 – 01/05/2014

On January 5, 2014 at the age of 88, Dorothy finished her journey home. A loving wife to husband, Herbert, for 55 years, a loving mother of three, a grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of 5. She is survived by her children Steve (and Diane) Brown of McAllen Texas; Gary (and Susan) Brown of Grayson, GA; Sheryl (and Greg) Adams of Nashville, TN; her grandchildren, Matt, Miriam, Joanna, Marcos, Adam, Katie, Ashley, Luke, Abigail and Noah; great-grand children Alana, Ty, Nikolai, Sebastian and Silas.

A life long native of East Point (3 generations), Dorothy attended Russell High School. She studied at David Lipscomb College in Nashville, receiving her bachelor's degree from George Peabody College (now part of Vanderbilt University), and her Masters degree from the University of Georgia.

Dorothy was a devoted educator for more than 30 years in Atlanta and Fulton County Schools, serving for many years at Lakeshore High School in the Home Economics department where she functioned as department Chairperson. When Lakeshore closed its doors, she taught at Banneker High School for a number of years, retiring in 1990.

She remained active in Delta Kappa Gamma and Blue Cross Blue Shield Ambassadors organizations, as well as the East Point Historical Society and the Union City Seniors group.

Dorothy was baptized as a teenager at the East Point church of Christ, where her mother, Jeanette Fowler, was one of the original members. With her husband, Herbert, she devoted herself to serving the church in many different ways through the years, from teaching Sunday school, to visiting the sick, to preparing countless meals.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday January 9th at the East Point Church of Christ. Eric Whelchel, minister, will officiate. The remains will be placed in state one hour prior to the service. An interment service will be held immediately following the service at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Wednesday evening January 8th from 6-8 PM at the Carmichael Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East Point Church of Christ, 3046 Church Street, East Point, GA 30344.
