Dorothy Burtley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 28, 2012.

Our beloved mother went to join her mother, Juanita Burtley, in the garden of Heaven on November 27, 2012. Mom was born June 23, 1943 in Arkansas, and later moved to Michigan in the 1950's. She retired from the Country Club of Lansing after 35 years. Mom enjoyed her many trips to the casino and was an avid "Card Shark", especially playing Poker and Tunk with her "Card Buddies". She also enjoyed cooking, being "Boss Lady", and was a big fan of her Detroit Tigers, Lions and Tiger Woods. Family was very important to mom, as were family dinners, Holiday get togethers, and spectating her family at softball, basketball and other sporting events. Her host of grandchildren and great grandchildren were very dear to her. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving mother, and her brother Edward Coleman. She is survived by her loving children Patricia Ann (Booker) Jones, Edwin (Teresa) Burtley, Phillip Burtley (Chris), Launita Burtley (Linda), Shelia Burtley and Leola Burtley, all of Lansing. She is also survived by her sister Leoma Foster Smith , 3 brothers John (Ernestine) Williams, Orlando Bardwell, Freddie (Cindy) Burtley Jr., and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 PM prior to the service. Special thanks for the care provided by Grace of Hospice and the Okemos Health and Rehabilitation Center. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.grlansing.com

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my own familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Im gonna miss you MOM!!!

Launita and Family,

Although we know that no words can ease the loss you feel, just know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.

When we lose someone we love, its hard to see the blessings bestowed on us because of our grief. However, know that with each day that passes, the blessings come to light and the pain and grief felt lessens with time.

Ann & Ed I wish to extend my most sincere sympathy to both of you & your family, upon the lost of you mom. There is a lonesomeness after the death of one's mother as I know after losing my mom this year. Your life of happiness together will help sustain your strength and calmness. I know your courage will help you through this rough time. May your memories also be a source of comfort.
