Dorothy "Lynn" Davis Godfrey, 76, of Coldspring, Texas, died Monday, February 24, 2014 in Hospice Care. A Memorial Service will be held at Coldspring United Methodist Church at 2:00pm on Saturday the 1st of March, with Reverend David Green officiating. Burial will be at The Houston National Cemetery at 10:00am on Monday the 3rd of March. Lynn was born on July 27, 1937 in Gilmer, TX to Malcolm Isaac and Novie (Wells) Davis. Lynn was born on July 27, 1937 in Gilmer, TX to Malcolm Isaac and Novie (Wells) Davis. She graduated from Byrd High School, Shreveport, LA in 1955. She attended LSU, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, The University of Texas and graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport, TX in 1959 with a BA in Education. On August 8th, 1959 she married Lawrence "Larry" Mahlon Godfrey, Jr., of Wichita Falls, TX at Highland Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. She and Larry lived in Dallas until 1973 when the family moved to England for five years. She worked in Education as well as Real Estate. Upon the family's return to the USA, they moved to Missouri City, TX where she worked as a children's librarian at the George Memorial Public Library, Richmond, TX. Lynn was an avid gardener and received her Master Gardener Certification. In 2001 she and Larry moved to Coldspring, TX. She was an active member of the Coldspring community, singing in the Methodist Church choir, volunteering at the library and was one of the founders of the Youth Club of San Jacinto County. Lynn is survived by her two daughters, Allyson Caulder and her husband Michael of Lancaster, TX, Claire Schlesser and her husband Thomas of New York, NY, her son, Christopher Godfrey of Driftwood, TX, her grandchild Emily Caulder, her twin Sister, Ann Armintor of Monroe, LA, her brother Tom Davis of Longview, TX and several nieces and nephews. Lynn was a devoted wife, mother and friend, always putting others before herself.
