Soon after her sweetheart, Wayne Jacobs returned from WWII, seriously wounded, the couple married and settled in Nacogdoches. Dorothy was a major factor in Wayne's successful recovery and was his loving companion, helpmate and business partner until his death in 2009. They were married for 64 years.

A devoted mother, Dorothy was very proud of her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always ready with praise and loving words. Each son-in-law was quickly welcomed and made a part of Dorothy's family. After raising her family, Dorothy followed her interest in genealogy and gardening and enjoyed active membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Old South Garden Club. Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church and attended the Open Door Sunday School Class and was a member of Circle Seven.

J. King and wife Mary Lou of Nacogdoches, sisters-in-law Earline Jacobs of Nacogdoches and Bonnie Jacobs of Woden, Texas and numerous other relatives and friends.
