Dorothy Sue Jordan Pate died on Monday, November 5, 2012, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Sue was born in Talladega, Alabama, on December 22, 1933 to Kate Powell Norman Jordan and Troy Carlton Jordan. They moved to Mobile during the Second World War, and Sue attended Craighead School and Barton Academy before going to Murphy High School, from which she graduated in 1951. She had many fond memories of Murphy and her friends and thoroughly enjoyed the many reunions of the Class of 1951.

Sue entered the University of Alabama in the fall of 1951 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1958, after a lapse of four years during which she accompanied her husband throughout his tour of duty in the U. S. Navy. Subsequently, she was in the graduate psychology program at the University of Alabama from 1959 to 1961 and in the graduate English program at Georgia State College (now Georgia State University). She loved the academic life and was a life-long student with particular interests in language, literature, and music.

On June 8, 1954, Sue married James Lester Pate, whom she had met in a senior seminar in psychology in the summer term of 1953. They have two daughters, Debra Sue and Laura Katrine. Other survivors are Velera Nell Pate (sister-in-law), Thomas Gerald Pate (brother-in-law), Hazel Lillian Compton (cousin), Arthur Kenneth Womble, Jr. (nephew), and Teresa Maria Kominos (niece-in-law).

Sue worked as a psychological technician at Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama; as an administrator in the Webster Division of McGraw-Hill; as a paralegal at Long, Alridge, Hiner, Stevens, and Sumners; and as an administrator in various cable television companies. She retired in 1995.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Weinstein Hospice, 3150 Howell Mill Road, N.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30327 or a charity of one's choice are requested. Visitation will be at the Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012.
