Contributions may be made to St. Martin Lutheran Church, 13849 Hollingsworth Rd., KCK 66109.
Dorothy was born November 2, 1928 in KCK to Harry and Althea Jons. She was raised in Piper, KS where her parents owned and operated the original Victory Junction. Dorothy graduated from Basehor HS in 1946 and married the love of her life, Gene, on March 9, 1947. They resided on the family farm in rural Basehor and were lifelong members of St. Martin Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker, who also enjoyed volunteering at the Basehor public and school libraries. Dorothy worked for NCAA in the late 1980s and later as a greeter for the Bonner Springs Wal-Mart. She loved quilting, embroidering, crossword puzzles, going to the casino and especially travelling with her husband and family. Dorothy was happiest when she was together with her loving family; they were her biggest priority.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Althea Jons, her husband Gene Poggemeyer in 1998, and her brother, Harry Lee Jons.
Dorothy is survived by her four daughters, Joyce McMillen (Joe) of Basehor, Mary Hurla (Bob) of Leavenworth, Donna Poppe (Dennie) of Indianapolis and Karen Poggemeyer of Basehor; thirteen grandchildren, Shelly, Chuck, Mandi, Nicole, Keith, Kristen, Kyle, Karl, Kirk, Jon, Carl, Lisa and Ryan; thirty-five great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren as well as many other family members and friends.

"The news of Dorothy's passing was so sad. My family and I spent a lot of summers in Kansas with Gene, Dorothy and the girls. Dorothy had a most lovely air..." Diane Fredericks (Portage, IN)
