An MHCC alumnus, Bowman graduated from the college in 1975. He returned in 2012 to join the track and field team as a coach, and assumed head coaching duties at the start of the 2014 season. Bowman's efforts to revitalize the program met with immediate success, as he helped more than 100 student-athletes move on to four-year university track and field programs over the past several years. Bowman also served as assistant coach for the cross-country team. Bowman was diagnosed with brain cancer in March of last year, but continued to coach this past season. "Coach Bowman's dedication to his team was amazing," said MHCC athletic director Kim Hyatt. "His love and knowledge of track and field, and his commitment to passing that on to the next generation of athletes, made him an outstanding coach and human being. He will be missed dearly."Bowman's coaching career spanned more than four decades of working with athletes at all levels of competition, from youth to seniors. He managed a successful regional club through the USA Track and Field organization, and trained with numerous World and American record holders. He was also a firm believer that track and field was a sport that anyone could take part in, at any age.Bowman, a father of six and grandfather of 16, also leaves behind his wife, Cheryl, of 14 years. - See more at: https://www.mhcc.edu/Coach-Doug-Bowman/#sthash.o7NuLAgi.dpuf
