I was one of hundreds of education students of Dr. John at Angelo State University. As Dr. Clemons stated, we liked and respected him very much. The world was a better place with him in it. He will be missed.

I taught in Angelo State's Biology Department from 1971-2008, so my time at ASU and Doug's overlapped. He was a valued colleague. We did not know each other well, but we always spoke, and we had a chance to visit more once we both retired at the semiannual meeting of the ASU Retired Faculty Organization. I worked hard during my years at ASU, so I am enjoying my retirement, doing exactly what I want to do. I'm glad that Doug was able to do the same, being able to enjoy his passion for gardening. I'm saddened by his passing, but I think both Doug and I felt that we left ASU a better place when we retired than we found it when we began there. My memories of him are good ones. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

Doug and Betty were the first friends we had when we moved to San Angelo in 1971. We have countless memories of trips and get-togethers with these two. What fun we've had over the years...the laughing, the eating, the dancing...and more recently, meeting for lunches, and telephone calls... many treasured moments together. Love you, Doug. We'll miss you! Noland and Lou

No one had as much influence on my education and career as Dr. John. From undergraduate work through graduate school his integrity, humor, and expectation of excellence was awesome. I always looked forward to his classes knowing we were going to learn and do a lot of work. Over the years I have quoted him many times. He was a master educator and an inspiring man. I feel as though I just lost a member of my family. My condolences to all his family. Albert (He always called me Albert) Bert Johnson - San Angelo

I have been remembering all the fun times we had as children. When I saw the picture of Douglas, Julia, and me memories came flooding through my mind. Buddy Smith, my husband and his high school coach, always really thought Douglas was one of his favorite students and he was so proud of what Douglas did with his life. Love to all the family. Cousins forever!
