CROZIER, Douglas Gordon;
Peacefully at Toronto General Hospital with his family surrounding him in a blanket of love on February 17, 2014 at the age of 74. Beloved husband and best friend to Peggy Crozier (Mills). Loving and devoted father to Brad & Meli. Dear brother of Robert Crozier & Diana Purvis of Stirling, and John & Debbie Crozier of Emsdale. Much-loved brother-in-law of Penny & Don Morrow of Chatham, Patricia Mills & Derek Nicholson of North York, Pam & Brian Hall of Chatham. Cherished son-in-law of Elsie Mills of Chatham. Predeceased by parents Kathleen & Craig Crozier and sister Janice Bolton. Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews and their families.
As a mechanical engineer, Doug was passionate about designing innovative ways to keep people comfortable. He did this by using his ingenuity to create efficient and cost-effective systems. That passion and creativity made him a desired and well-respected professional in his field. During his career he worked at Inducon Consultants, Takano Engineering and his own company, DGC Consulting Inc.
He used that same creativity and love of design in his leisure time as well. He could solve any household problem with a trip to the hardware store and many of us have something in our homes that Doug either repaired, replaced or created.
Doug had a life-long love of boating and all things to do with the water. He and Peggy spent many happy years exploring Georgian Bay in "The Great Escape I, II and III". Over the past few years they have enjoyed their time at Berford Lake, making the cottage their special retreat. He shared his passion for cars with his son Brad, which led to helping Brad start his auto-detailing business. His brothers shared the Crozier obsession with insanely complex construction projects and would have long phone conversations comparing notes.
After six years of failing health, Doug got the call that saved his life in January of 2008. He was given the incredible gift of a liver transplant allowing him to continue enjoying his time with family and friends and doing the things he loved to do. Doug continued to face health challenges yet was the model of perseverance and optimism. A way to honour Doug's life would be to consider signing your organ donation card and sharing those wishes with your family.
Doug's family will be forever grateful for the extraordinary care and compassion shown by the staff at the Toronto General Hospital. Doug was given exceptional care by the transplant team, the staff in the dialysis unit, and the specialists that assisted in his care. We are especially grateful for the ICU team that gave Doug such a dignified and peaceful time during his final days.
Family and friends may visit at Giffen-Mack Scarborough Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 4115 Lawrence Ave. E., West Hill, (416) 281-6800 from 6-9pm on Friday, February 21, 2014. A service in the Chapel to be held on Saturday at 11am. Cremation. If desired donations may be made to the Liver Transplant Fund at Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation. (416) 340-4430.
