Douglas Malott Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 3, 2013.

Douglas F. Malott was born on October 1, 1921 in Emmett Arkansas to Annis Irene and Walter Oswald Malott. He was the youngest of five children. His father, Walter, was a 'Share Cropper' in the Emmett and Camp, Arkansas areas until moving to Arizona many years later. At the age of about 19, his oldest sister, Maude Ryan, who was living in Alaska at the time, purchased tickets to bring young Doug to Alaska via train to Seattle and ship to Alaska. While in Alaska he worked as a Longshoreman as well as a rail driver in the Alaska gold mines. He was drafted into the Army from Alaska, during WWII and served in the Philippines and Japan. After his separation from the Army he returned to the states to settle in Post Falls ID, where he lived with his sister Ruby. It was here that he made a dramatic commitment to Jesus Christ while attending revival services as Pleasant View Baptist church in Post Falls and soon after, while attending meetings at Healing Waters Tabernacle, in Spokane WA, he met Marilu Lawson, who was the youth leader. Doug and Marilu were then married on February 9, 1950. It was in Spokane, WA, while working in various facets of the tree and lumber industry that he and his wife raised their three children: Douglas Steven, Crystal Joy and Marilee Kay. He was a long time active member of the Rock of Ages Christian Fellowship, where even in his later years he was a faithful and consistent participant in church life. It was on June 30, 2013 that Douglas F. Malott met his savior face to face. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, brother Ode; Sister Dorothy and Sister Ruby. He is survived by his wife Marilu, Sister Maude (who is 99 years old), his three children, 12 grand children and 8 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Rock of Ages Christian Fellowship, W. 2131 Woodside Avenue, Spokane WA on Monday, July 8, 2013, at 3:0pm. A private interment will be held at the Eastern Washington Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA on Monday morning prior to the memorial service.
