Douglas McHenry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 30, 2012.

Douglas "Big Mac" Lee McHenry

Age 51, from Deltona, passed away on Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012, at Fish Memorial Hospital in Deltona.

He was born on March1st, 1961, in the Bronx, NY. He was predeceased by his mother, Maxine McHenry, grandmother, Myrtle Sanders, and his Uncle Preston Leach, who was Doug's "Father Figure" and Mentor. Doug was married in West Babylon, NY, on December 23rd, 2005 and is survived by his wife, Marilyn and his daughter Maria Maxine. Doug always considered Marilyn's children to be his own: Michael, 30, "Lil" Marilyn, 22, Joseph IV, 20, and Michelle, 18. He is also survived by his aunt, Barbara Leach, cousins Christina, Erica, Robin, Julian, Alexa, and Tristyn. He was a graduate of Aviation High School in Long Island City, NY. Doug attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD, and completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Phoenix.

In 1982, Doug joined the New York City Police Department as a Police Officer and was assigned to Upper Manhattan. Throughout his illustrious career, he was assigned to various specialized units, including Community Affairs, the Community Patrol Officer Program, the Boy Scouts Police Explorer Program, and the Traffic Enforcement Unit. Doug received many awards, medals, and commendations from his supervisors and the citizens in his precinct.

As a young man, Doug's love for football was formed when he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers and played for the Team during that season. He played for the Defensive Team and years later would always be seen wearing his signature Number 57 Football Jersey.

Upon their mutual retirements from the NYPD, Doug and Marilyn moved their family to Deltona, Florida. In keeping with their love of Law Enforcement, Doug and Marilyn were hired as Criminal Investigators with the State of Florida. They have always been know for their funny sense of humor, their uncanny way of making people laugh, and most of all their warmth and compassion when you were in their home.

DEATH IS SO FINAL AND I MISS TALKING TO YOU, THE NIGHT THE STORM HIT NEW YORK THE NEXT DAY I CALLED YOUR PHONE TO CHECK ON YOU ONLY TO REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NO LONGER HERE AND I CAN NO LONGER HEAR YOUR VOICE IN WHICH IS SO DEVASTATING TO ME
BECAUSE THOSE CONVERSATIONS MEANT A GREAT DEAL TO ME. IN THE LAST PAST YEAR I HEARD YOU OPEN UP TO ME LIKE NEVER BEFORE EVEN WITH US ENDING OUR CONVERSATIONS WITH I LOVE YOU BIG BRO AND I LOVE YOU SIS I HAD NEVER HEARD SO MUCH LOVE BEING EXPRESSED FROM YOU AND WHEN I HEARD YOU CALL ME DEB WHEN IN ALL YOUR LIFE OF KNOWING ME YOUR SISTER NEVER HAVE I HEARD YOU CALL ME DEB AND THIS TOO TOUCHED MY HEART. THREE DAYS BEFORE YOU PASSED WE HAD A CONVERSATION AND I TOLD YOU THAT YOU SHOULD COME HOME TO NEW YORK TO SEE THESE DOCTORS BECAUSE I FELT THAT THOSE FLORIDA DOCTORS WASN'T DOING ENOUGH FOR YOU AND YOU WASN'T RECEIVING THE CORRECT CARE THAT YOU NEEDED AND WHEN YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN I COULD HEAR FEAR IN YOUR VOICE LEAVING ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING THAT YOU WAS NOT TELLING ME HOWEVER I LET IT GO AND WHEN I RECEIVED A SPIRIT FILLED MESSAGE FROM SOMEONE TELLING ME THAT I WAS GOING TO LOSE A FRIEND I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WAS TALKING ABOUT HOWEVER I NEVER WOULD OF THOUGHT IT WOULD BE YOU MY BIG BROTHER WHO I WOULD BE SAYING SEE YOU LATER TO. I RATHER REMEMBER YOU THE WAY YOU WERE RATHER SEEING YOU IN THAT BOX LAYING THERE WITH NO LIFE IN YOU AND I KNOW THAT THE SPIRIT ,THE SOUL NO LONGER LIVES IN THAT CONTAINER SO I RATHER STAY HERE CLOSE TO GOD FOR I KNOW THAT TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD AND I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN ONE DAY. I PRAY THAT MOMMY, NANA, MR JOHN OUR STEP FATHER, UNCLE PRESTON, GARY AND ALFIE BOLLERS ALONG WITH SO MANY OTHERS OF OUR FAMILY MEMBERS WAS THERE TO MEET YOU AT THE PEARLY GATES AND TELL ALL OF THEM HELLO FOR US YOUR SISTER DEBORAH AND YOUR NIECE JUSTICE. DOUGLAS THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO LOVE AND FOR YOU LOVING ME AND YOU WILL FOREVER LIVE IN OUR HEARTS. SO MUCH LEFT UNSAID HOWEVER IT IS BETTER THIS WAY. I MUST SAY THAT I AM SO PROUD FOR ACCEPTING CHRIST AND WANTING TO GET TO KNOW HIM MORE INTIMATE AND AS LONG AS I STAY CLOSE TO GOD I KNOW YOU WILL BE NEAR. NOW YOU LOOK OUT FOR OUR WHITE BALLOONS THAT WE WILL BE SENDING UP ON THIS SUNDAY AND EVERY MARCH 1 WHICH IS YOUR BIRTHDAY AND EVERY FATHERS DAY FOR YOU WERE A WONDERFUL FATHER AND ON CHRISTMAS TOO...,, AS SOON AS I GET A CHANCE TO VISIT YOUR GRAVE I WILL BE THERE AND I KNOW YOU REMEMBER WHEN WE PAID A VISIT TO NANA'S GRAVE ONCE AND I SAT THERE FOR A WHILE TO TALK TO HER I WILL BE DOING THE SAME WITH YOU OH HECK I TALK TO YOU NOW AND ALWAYS WILL. DON'T WORRY ABOUT US BEING ALONE NOT HAVING ANYMORE FAMILY LEFT HERE BECAUSE GOD HAS BEEN SO GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO SURROUND ME WITH GOOD FRIENDS ALONG WITH A WONDERFUL GOD FAMILY AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF SISTERS BUT MOST OF ALL I HAVE JESUS AND MY DAUGHTER, WE HAVE EACH OTHER. SO THIS IS SEE YOU LATER BIG BROTHER DOUGLAS AND I AM SO GLAD THAT GOD SHARED YOU WITH ME FOR THE SHORT TIME THAT WE HAD. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND YOU ARE MISSED ALREADY, I DON'T EVEN WANT TO STOP WRITING BUT IF I DON'T THIS WILL BE A BOOK....MUAH MUAH MUAH MUAH, LOTS OF HUGS AND KISSES, KISSES, KISSES, KISSES FOR YOU!!! SEE YOU LATER...........
