Douglas Earl Niederhofer, 89, born September 26, 1924 in Hawthorne, Texas passed away April 13, 2014 in Pasadena, Texas. Doug served his country in the South Pacific during WWII. Following his retirement from Continental Can Company, he was rehired as a consultant traveling to Canada, Mexico, Holland, Germany, Korea and throughout the United States and was fondly known as "Tex". He served as an election judge in New Waverly for many years. He was interviewed by the Walker County Historical Society and this video recording is a part of the Oral History of Walker County. Douglas Earl Niederhofer, 89, born September 26, 1924 in Hawthorne, Texas passed away April 13, 2014 in Pasadena, Texas. Doug served his country in the South Pacific during WWII. Following his retirement from Continental Can Company, he was rehired as a consultant traveling to Canada, Mexico, Holland, Germany, Korea and throughout the United States and was fondly known as "Tex". He served as an election judge in New Waverly for many years. He was interviewed by the Walker County Historical Society and this video recording is a part of the Oral History of Walker County. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Most of all he was a great story teller and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Juanita and son, Ronnie. He was the last survivor of nine children born to Maudie and Ben Niederhofer. He is survived by two granddaughters and numerous relatives including nephews, James Fowler of Deer Park, Texas; John Fowler of Pasadena, Texas and great nephew, Greg Fowler of Deer Park who provided love and support. He will also be remembered by a host of friends and hunting buddies. He is also survived by his loving and caring companion, Pauline Falks, with whom he shared many good memories during the last 15 years.
Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:00am Thursday with the funeral service beginning at 10:00am at Metcalf Funeral Directors. The interment will follow in Old Waverly Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
