Obituary

Dr. Douglas Franklin Parker, 71, passed away on Sunday, April 21st following a valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease and cancer. Doug was an active member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, a beloved and respected optometrist in Jacksonville for more than 40 years, a member of the Rotary Club of Deerwood and a lifelong Florida Gator. He is pre-deceased by his parents Ed and Marjorie Parker. Doug is survived by his brothers Ed, Jr and Steve, and his sister Nancy Harrell, his loving wife Sandra and children Ryan and Emily, among many relatives and dear friends. Dr. Douglas Franklin Parker, 71, passed away on Sunday, April 21st following a valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease and cancer. Doug was an active member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, a beloved and respected optometrist in Jacksonville for more than 40 years, a member of the Rotary Club of Deerwood and a lifelong Florida Gator. Doug is survived by his brothers Ed, Jr and Steve, and his sister Nancy Harrell, his loving wife Sandra and children Ryan and Emily, among many relatives and dear friends. Doug will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery with military honors. Memorial donations can be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, April 24th at Lakewood United Methodist Church with Associate Pastor Eric Williams officiating.
