Durwood Humphrey North, 84, of Richlands died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at The Heritage of Richlands.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Richlands for many years and served as secretary of his Sunday School. Mr. North was past Fire Chief for Richlands Fire Dept. and past member of the Richlands Jaycees. He worked for Fil-Ray Gas Co. and then for Jenkins Gas Co. He was part owner of the Richlands Food Market. Mr. North was preceded in death by his wife: Leona Stephens North; daughter: Betty North Broughton.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 2, 1013 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Richlands with Reverend Gary McAbee officiating. Burial will be Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Onslow Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m.

He is survived by his daughter: Margaret N. Dixon of Richlands; brothers: Ronnie North of Richlands, Robert North of Richlands; grandchildren: Lorie Thompson and husband Scot, Shellie Byrd and husband Luc, Tracy Ketchum and husband Mark, Allison Pittman and husband Haywood; great grandchildren: Hannah Thompson, Madison Thompson, Jenna Riehle, Olivia Jane Riehle, Heather Byrd, Rachel Byrd, Gabrielle Broughton, Emily Ketchum, Sydney Ketchum, Easton Pittman.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church on Wednesday.

Flowers or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Richlands Building Fund, 100 Rand St., Richlands, NC 28574.
