Dwayne L. Jones, 78, of Springfield, passed away at his home on Friday, February 21, 2014. He was born on March 22, 1935, in Springfield, the son of Murray and Gladys (Nation) Jones. Dwayne married Betty Norris on August 14, 1954, in Coal Grove, OH. She preceded him in death on November 26, 1997. Dwayne worked as a telephone lineman for many years, he went on to work for Caterpillar as a unit adjuster until he retired. After retiring from Caterpillar he worked as an interstate trucker. Dwayne was very active in his community outside of work as well; a member of the ANSAR Shrine, Riverton Lavely Masonic Lodge 0786 for 44 years, one...
Dwayne L. Jones, 78, of Springfield, passed away at his home on Friday, February 21, 2014. He was born on March 22, 1935, in Springfield, the son of Murray and Gladys (Nation) Jones. Dwayne married Betty Norris on August 14, 1954, in Coal Grove, OH. She preceded him in death on November 26, 1997. Dwayne worked as a telephone lineman for many years, he went on to work for Caterpillar as a unit adjuster until he retired. After retiring from Caterpillar he worked as an interstate trucker. Dwayne was very active in his community outside of work as well; a member of the ANSAR Shrine, Riverton Lavely Masonic Lodge 0786 for 44 years, one of the first members of Springfield & Sangamon County Rescue Squad in 1961, Deputy Sheriff of Sangamon County in 1973, Fraternal Order of Eagles Riverton, and an Illinois Licensed Pilot in 1982. Dwayne had many adventures during his retirement, his favorites were his four cross country trips on his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle.

Dwayne is survived by his children: Marilyn Johnson of Springfield, Richard (Linda) Jones of Fresno, CA, Ralph (Vicki) Jones of Chatham, Jeffrey Jones of Chatham, a sister Marilyn (Joe) Norris of Springfield, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dwayne in death are his parents, a son Michael Jones, and son-in-law Keith Johnson.

Cremation rites will be accorded by Bisch & Son Funeral Home.

A memorial service officiated by Rev. Rita Nafziger will be on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 11 am, at Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E Allen St Springfield, IL, 62703. The family will receive friends from 10 am until the time of service. Inurnment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
