On November 22, 2013, E. JAY PLYMYER passed away. Jay was born on June 3, 1922 in York, PA, the son of Sargent R. and Edith (Kline) Plymyer. In 1937, he moved with his family to West Lawn, PA, where he graduated from Wilson High School in 1939.

Mr. Plymyer graduated from the Former Reading Business Institute in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942, and served with the 78th Infantry Division in Europe during the Ardennes offensive and Rhineland campaign, earning the Bronze Star. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Technician Third Grade.

After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Plymyer attended Albright College in Reading, PA, and graduated in 1949. In 1951, he began a career at the Kutztown Foundry and Machine Corporation in Kutztown, PA, that ended with his retirement in 1985 as a Purchasing Manager for the Foundry, which by then was a division of McConway & Torlay Corporation. After his retirement from McConway & Torlay, Mr. Plymyer worked part-time as a courier for Omega Medical Laboratories for ten years.

Mr. Plymyer was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in West Lawn, PA for over 60 years, serving for many years as an usher and member of the Church Council. Hi lifelong hobby was playing the trumpet, and for over 50 years he was an active member of the Wyomissing Band of Wyomissing, PA, a community band founded in 1923. Over his lifetime, played the trumpet at over a thousand parades and community and church concerts and continued to play until unable to do so because of Parkinson's Disease.

Mr. Plymyer also was a long-time member of the American Legion, the Reber-Moore Veterans Association of Shillington, PA, and the National Association of Purchasing Management. In later years, he particularly enjoyed yearly trips with his family to Rideau Ferry in Ontario, Canada.

In 1946, Mr. Plymyer married Edith E. Mengel, a registered nurse who graduated from Reading Hospital School of Nursing. He has three children, David Plymyer of Millersville, MD, James Plymyer of Centreville, VA, and Ann Plymyer Schenkel, of Querétaro, Mexico, twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He also has a brother, Dr. Ray E. Plymyer of West Lawn, PA.

In 2006, Mr. Plymyer moved with his wife to Augsburg Lutheran Village in Baltimore, MD. Since 2012, he has been a resident of Augsburg Lutheran Home.

A memorial service is being planned for a future date at Augsburg Lutheran Home; 6811 Campfield Road; Baltimore, MD 21207. Interment in Crownsville Veteran Cemetery on Tuesday, December 3rd at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Resident Care Fund of Augsburg Lutheran Home and Village; 6811 Campfield Road; Baltimore, MD 21207.
