ANDREWS, Chaplain (Col) U.S. Army (Ret) Earl, passed away at his home surrounded by his family and close friends on Thursday, December 23, 2010. Chaplain Andrews served in the U.S. Army for 26 years, was the first U.S. Army Chaplain to be assigned to the Viet Nam War, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service there. During the remaining years of Earl's service, he was assigned as Post Chaplain at the U.S. Army Military Academy at West Point, Post Chaplain in Berlin, Germany, and Fort Benning, Georgia. ANDREWS, Chaplain (Col) U.S. Army (Ret) Earl, passed away at his home surrounded by his family and close friends on Thursday, December 23, 2010. Chaplain Andrews served in the U.S. Army for 26 years, was the first U.S. Army Chaplain to be assigned to the Viet Nam War, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service there. During the remaining years of Earl's service, he was assigned as Post Chaplain at the U.S. Army Military Academy at West Point, Post Chaplain in Berlin, Germany, and Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon retirement from the Army, Earl served as Associate Pastor of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church for 19 years. Preceded by his wife of 47 years, Betty Andrews, he is survived by his wife, Ann Andrews, and three children- Mark (Amy) Andrews, Martha (Mack) Holcomb, and Amy (Todd) Wilson; Grandchildren- Laurel Jennifer Andrews, Logan Elizabeth-Anne Andrews, Missouri Grace Champion, Chloe Elizabeth Champion, Elizabeth Ryan Wilson, and Hunter Joel Wilson; Step-children- Heather (Brian) Bowen, Marlin (Laura) Headley, Miriam (Thomas) Scharf, and Dawn (Stuart) Wheeler; Step Grandchildren- Joshua Bowen, Megan Bowen, and Claire Headley. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, 2010, from 12 Noon until 1:30 pm, at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church, with his Funeral Service at 1:30 pm, with Dr. Tim Thompson and Dr. John Ed Mathison officiating. Full Military Honors burial will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Sims, Jerry Kemp, Robert Jackson, Bill Allison, Tom Champion, Dave Best, Roy Guthrie, and Lanny McAndrew. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sowers Sunday School Class and the Parkinsons Support Group. The Family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice and Right At Home for their loving care.
