EARL RAYMOND MARS, SR , 88
Earl Raymond Mars, Sr, 88 years old passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 peacefully at Oakmont Nursing Home in Humble, Texas. Mr. Mars was born October 15, 1924 to Creed and Irene Mars in Houston, Texas, the third of 4 children. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1941.
Mr. Mars served in the Coast Guard in World War II as a boat swain's mate. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and the Asianic-Pacific ribbon with one bronze star. He met his first beautiful bride, Mildred Margaret Mars at Jefferson Davis High School in 1941 before he went off to the war.
In 1943, Mr. Mars began a long career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Houston, Texas. He had various positions with his last one being a PBX installer, but climbing telephone poles was the position he enjoyed the most. He often told stories of climbing the poles and had some very strong and muscled arm and calf muscles to show for it. In 1988 he retired from Southwestern Bell after 45 years. Throughout Mr. Mars' life, you could find him on weekends playing the steel guitar and singing in bands at the local honky tonks. Music was one of his great passions and he knew a song for everything. He was actively involved in the Elk's club and loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was highly regarded by all that knew him for his kindness, humor and sweet dimpled smile.
Mr. Mars is survived by his second beautiful wife, Dorothy Mars; son Earl R. Mars, Jr. and daughter, Diane Carlile; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister; his daughter Brenda Joyce Faulkner and first wife Mildred Margaret Mars.

I remember visiting you all the time when you lived up the street. I remember everytime I visited - you were sitting in your favorate chair watching T.V while eating donuts. I will miss you very much.

Papa,
I have so many memories growing up and so glad you were there to watch me grow up. I know one day I will get to see you and tell you all that you can't be a part of right now. I cannot wait to see you in heaven one day and though you aren't here now I have treasured every grocery run, news watching, tv talking conversation. You are so sweet and precious to me. Miss you already. Love you to the moon and back.

I have so many memories of growing up next door. But my best memory of Papa Mars is him playing his steel guitar in the living room and singing. I know the Angels in heaven were excited to get him to join in their choir. I also know that Brenda Joyce was excited to see her daddy again.

There has never been a better man that I have EVER met in my life than my PaPa. A man so full of love for everyone....A man with character like I have never seen....A man that was so tough and solid, yet was a softie when it came to loving me.....I am a better person from God putting him in my life....I can't wait to see him again.....

My sweet Papaw. I have such fond memories of you. I remember being a little girl and climbing up in your lap as you sat in your recliner. I would hug you and you always rubbed your whiskers on my face because it made me giggle. I thought you were so funny and fun to be around. I remember living next door to you and Meme and always walking over to y'all's house every morning to get spoiled and loved on. You even bought me a little pony when I was just a toddler. You always made me feel loved. I will miss your sweet smile, compliments about my smile and complexion, hearing you say, "what do ya say little stinky!", and all of your silly songs you would sing to me.
P.S. Every time I smell a cigar I will think of you and smile. I love you to the moon and back, infinity and beyond, Papa!

My sweet sweet Daddy. You always showed us how much you loved us. You were a good Daddy and my hero. Always my strength. I miss your humor and your smile and you calling me little kid, to mention just a little of all you were and will always be. You were my "Daddy Man". I miss you Daddy.
Love,
Diane
