Ed Samsel, 66, husband of Janet Jorges, has "Gone to Glory" and met his Savior face to face on August 21, 2013. Ed was born in Morristown, Tennessee and was raised in nearby Bean Station, Tennessee.
He was a graduate of Rutledge High School in Grainger County, TN and received his B.S. degree in finance from ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee. Ed moved to the Knoxville area and had a 40 year career in the banking industry including executive positions at First Tennessee Bank, Sun Trust Bank and ORNL Federal Credit Union from which he retired in 2008. After retirement, Ed earned his commercial Realtor's license and worked in commercial Real Estate development and financing.
Ed enjoyed baseball and was the pitcher for several men's teams in Knoxville. He was an avid VOLS fan! He was a member of Rotary International Farragut Chapter and also served 13 years in the Army National Guard of Tennessee.
In 2012, Ed moved to Chattanooga and married Janet Faith Jorges. Two months later, Ed was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He and Janet began fighting the disease that eventually took his life. Since Ed had no children, he was glad to share in the lives of Janet's children: David and Cheryl Parker; Rickey and Diana Johnson; Ricky Burnette and Denise Sterchi and grandchildren: Parker, Anna, Laura, Blake, Will and Olivia.
Ed loved his new home in Windward Pointe in Chattanooga and the caring and supportive neighbors there. He attended Bayside Baptist Church when his health allowed.
Ed was preceded in death by parents, Gale T. and Ann Mayes Samsel and by his brother, "Ace" Danny Gale Samsel. Survivors include his wife, Janet Jorges-Samsel; several aunts, uncles and cousins in Northeast Tennessee.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the North Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home. A celebration of Ed's life will be on
Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 2:00 o'clock p.m.at the North Chapel with Pastor Eric Stitts officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
