Master Sergeant Eddie Lee Barrett, 73, of Pell City, Alabama passed away on December 30, 2017.
Eddie Grew up in Oloh, Mississippi, the son of the late William (Red) and Ruthie Barrett. He graduated from Sumrall High School in 1963 and then attended Mississippi State. Eddie moved to the Birmingham area and soon joined the Alabama National Guard. He also pursued a career in the Insurance business. Eventually, Eddie went full -time with the Alabama National Guard. He accumulated 35 years of service and duty, which included a Tour of Duty in Saudi Arabia with Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During his service time, he was recognized as Soldier of the Year as well as receiving numerous other awards and commendations.
Upon retirement in 1997 Eddie and his wife Jane spent time traveling, enjoying Alabama Football, playing golf, and fishing. They spent several years living at Emerald Pointe in Zephyrhills, Fl. In 2015 Eddie and Jane moved back to Alabama to be near their children and grandchildren.
Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Bill Barrett. He is survived by his wife Jane Humphries Barrett; his son Jimbo (Misty) Barrett, of Headland, Al.; his daughter Cindy (Tommy) Willis, of Springville, Al.; his 4 grandchildren Payton and Caroline Barrett, TJ and Barrett Willis; 2 step-grandchildren Meigs Roberts and Ashley Henson and one step-great-grandson Brooks Henson; 2 brothers, 3 sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Services will be held on January 16 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home 425 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama. Visitation from 9-10 with a Memorial service at 10:00 with Rev. Misty Barrett officiating. Interment with full Military Honors begin at 2:45 at the Alabama National Cemetery 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, Al.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
