Obituary

Edgar A. Hastings, (Lt. Col. USAF Retired) entered into rest February 20, 2014. He was the widower of Myra S. Hastings. He was born November 7, 1923 in Rising Sun, Indiana, the eldest son of Charles and Zula Hastings. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and James. Edgar began his 30 year Air Force career in 1942. After serving as a crew member on B-24 Aircraft in North Africa in WWII, he retired to the US to enter the Cadet Aviator Program. Edgar A. Hastings, (Lt. Col. USAF Retired) entered into rest February 20, 2014. He was the widower of Myra S. Hastings. He was born November 7, 1923 in Rising Sun, Indiana, the eldest son of Charles and Zula Hastings. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and James.
Edgar began his 30 year Air Force career in 1942. After serving as a crew member on B-24 Aircraft in North Africa in WWII, he retired to the US to enter the Cadet Aviator Program. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, piloting B-17 Aircraft. After WWII he returned home to marry his sweetheart, Myra Beth. The couple started their amazing life together in Indiana, where he worked building houses with his father and brother. He was recalled to serve in the Korean War and remained in the Air Force, to take his family on many adventures both stateside and abroad. His military career ended with another service to our country in the Vietnam War. He was highly decorated for his service to his country.
After retiring from the Air Force, he began his second career as manager and owner of RAM Aviation and RAM Sales at Patrick Henry Airport, never giving up his love of all things aviation. (He never really retired from his career.)
Ed was an active member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church. He loved being a part of his Aldersgate Sunday School class, ushering, and participating in several mission trips.
He also was a lifetime member of the Masons, and past president of the Langley AFB chapter of the Air Force Association.
Ed is survived by his son, Gregory and his wife Beth of Franklin, Tennessee; and daughter, Catherine of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Relatives and friends are invited are respectfully invited to attended a visitation on Sunday, February 23 from 5 PM- 8 PM at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia 23188. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 24 at 11 AM at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia 23185 and officiated by Rev. Dr. Bill Jones.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
