I remember Mrs. Smart as one of my tree service customers. She always wanted excellent care for her yard trees, including her several olives. The olives from her trees were so big and plump that I took a try at curing a good quantity of them one year. They turned out very well, and they lasted for many years. Every time we put them in spaghetti sauce or otherwise used them, I would always think of Mrs. Smart and her love for her trees. I also admired her for keeping her old Plymouth Valiant in such excellent condition, and she was proud of it. I was aware of her active community participation and busy schedule. People may pass, but they don't vanish into nothingness. The unique combination of imperishable qualities and expression constitute the individual identity that pre-exists and survives the temporary human condition. Hope to see you later Mrs. Smart.
