Edith Flayetta Ballard was born on March 26th, 1921 in Greenfield, IA, the daughter of Flay and Della (Stanley) Carlson. She grew up and attended school. With WWII looming large in everyone's plans, Edith went to work at Boeing as an Aircraft Machinist, a job she did very well and with pride. She would later meet and marry the love of her life, Samuel Eugene Ballard in October of 1954 in Wichita, KS. This union was blessed with two sons, two daughters, and 55 years of memories. Edith was a very active woman, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to spend her spare time in the garden working, raising beautiful flowers, and she enjoyed time out to do a little shopping, always buying something special for someone else. She had a giving heart and spirit, and a beautiful smile. She was the neighbor that always checked to see you were doing ok. Caring for her family was always her top priority, and she enjoyed making the holidays special as only she could. She was a faithful servant of God, and was a lifetime member of the Southside Baptist Church in Tahlequah. She adored her church family and was always happy to help in any way she could from working vacation bible school to helping with dinners. Sam passed from this life in 2009, and Edith moved to Missouri to be closer to her family. She enjoyed any chance she had to be with her family, and was so very proud of all their accomplishments. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on Tuesday, June 13th, 2017 in Springfield, MO with her loved ones by her side. She was 96 years old. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sam, her daughter Darlene and one grandchild.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Harold Ballard and family of Marshfield, MO, Okey Ballard and family of Wichita, KS, and Marilyn Ballard Blalock and family of Florida. Edith lives on in her 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, friends and a host of loved ones.
