Edmund Louis Kolwicz, age 92, of Mint Hill, NC passed away at his home on February 19, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Riverside, New Jersey to Romauld and Alexandra Kolwicz on November 16, 1921. Ed graduated from St. Casimir's Elementary School and Riverside High School. He played football for the Riverside Spartans and Basketball for St. Casimir's CYO and Coached CYO. Ed served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Edmund Louis Kolwicz, age 92, of Mint Hill, NC passed away at his home on February 19, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in Riverside, New Jersey to Romauld and Alexandra Kolwicz on November 16, 1921. Ed graduated from St. Casimir's Elementary School and Riverside High School. He played football for the Riverside Spartans and Basketball for St. Casimir's CYO and Coached CYO.
Ed served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. After service he attended a two year business school. He then went to work at Fort Dix, NJ in the Payroll Division. He then went on the U.S. Postal Service in Riverside, NJ until his retirement in 1983. He also worked part-time at the A&P in Willingboro, NJ.
In 2006, he and Irma moved to Mint Hill and became parishoners at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. They joined the 50 plus club at SJN and the OWL's Club at St. Gabriel's. He belonged to the VFW and attended Blessed Assurance Adult Day Care.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Irma J. Malone Kolwicz of Mint Hill, NC; son, Kenneth Kolwicz of Delanco, NJ; daughters, Kathleen (Bill) Fischer of Marlton, NJ and Kimberly (Todd) Anderson of Mint Hill; grandchildren, Kyle William (Alli) Kolwicz of Maryland, Karleigh Ann Kolwicz of Galloway, NJ, Ashley Marie (Cory) Crumbaugh of Mint Hill, Andrew Louis Anderson of Mint Hill, Alexandra Marie Anderson of Mint Hill; great-grandsons, Chase Alexander Anderson and Hunter Matthew Kolwicz.
The family will gather to receive friends at St. John Neumann Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 26 2014, beginning at 10 a.m. The funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. with Fr. Pat Hoare officiating. Military honors will immediately follow the service.
The family would like to thank the loving and caring staff of Hospice and Palliative Care – Charlotte Region, especially those of the Levine-Dickson hospice house in Huntersville and Fr. Pat Hoare from St. John Neumann Church for all he did for Ed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice & Pallative Care(Charlotte Region), Blessed Assurance Day Care or St. John Newman Catholic Church.
