Edward J. Dieter, 98, of Arden, NC, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Brookdale Asheville Walden Ridge in Asheville, NC.
Born in Naperville, IL; he was employed by Western Electric Co., manufacturer of telephone equipment and supplies in Chicago, IL. After a tour of duty as a Naval Aviation Instructor in World War II he rejoined Western Electric in New York City, and on July 17, 1948, he married Margaret Schak. In 1955, he was transferred to California and five years later he was relocated to Chicago as Manager Transportation West. During his work related activities, he was on the Board of Directors of I.T.O.F.C.A. (the largest shipping cooperative); a member of American Air Line's Freight System Advisory Board, and a representative of the Chicago Transportation Club's membership committee. His Civic activities included two five year terms on the Naperville Zoning Board of Appeals, and Chairman of a Red Cross fund raising campaign. Following his retirement in 1978, he and his wife moved to Gulf Harbors, FL, and, being an avid boater, he became Commodore of the Calusa Cruise Club in New Port Richey and a director of the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club. Then upon relocating to River Country, he became active in the Home Owners Association. He was Catholic, a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Florida and St. Barnabas in Arden, NC. The year 2015 brought a move to Arden, NC to be closer to family and resided at Trinity View Retirement residence.
Surviving Mr. Dieter are his wife, Margaret and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews located throughout the country.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 18, 2017 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church with Father Adrian Porras officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be held at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Naperville, IL at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Rotary Club of Arden Foundation, PO Box 268, Arden, NC 28704, note for Alzheimer Research Fund.

Tom and Cindy, Bob and I are saddened at the news of Ed's passing. Living next door to the Ed and Midge in Florida was truly an honor and privilege. Ed will be greatly missed. With all of our love and prayers to you both and also please give a big hug to Midge from us.
