.Edward Thomas "Ed" Bliss passed away on November 24, 2016 in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 86. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in the chapel at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. A private family burial will follow. Ed was born on August 24, 1930 to Edward Brodie Bliss and Agnes Mary McAdams Bliss. He grew up in Williamsburg, Ohio and in 1940 the family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. There he met Helen A Yetter and they married on November 25, 1950. Both were employed by Eli Lilly Company for several years. Ed eventually left Eli Lilly for Western Electric and was transferred to Shreveport, Louisiana. After more than 30 years of dedicated service, he retired from Western Electric but quickly found a new hobby, working with his father's tools. He began helping students that his daughter, Anita, worked with by building chairs and desks to meet each child's special needs. He was awarded the Jefferson Award in 1996 for this accomplishment. Ed had been involved with the Pioneers of America and had been the Pioneer of the Year in 1991-1992. During his years in Indianapolis, Ed developed an intense interest in both golf and bowling to which he won many awards/trophies. It was his desire to have the good Lord make a tee time so he could once again enjoy the outdoors!
Edward is preceded by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Bliss; daughters, Bonnie Richardson (Gaylon) of Spring, TX. Anita Gilliam (Mark) of Shreveport, LA.; sons, Jay M Bliss (Stacy) of McKinney, TX. and Andrew T Bliss of The Colony, TX. Ed is also survived by his 7 grandchildren; Jennifer Mitchell (Stephen) of Montgomery, TX., Craig Dubois of Houston, TX., Corey Gilliam (Molly) of Shreveport, LA., Katen Gilliam of Shreveport, LA., Chad Bliss and Jacob Bliss of Frisco, TX., and Ryan Bliss of The Colony, TX, along with 5 great grandchildren; Madeline Mitchell, Dallas Wendt, Ryder Padgett, Austin Gilliam and John Mark Gilliam.
