All week I have been thinking about dad and when we were kids. He would tell us stories about a Slovak super hero he called Jon Jabster. Jon was sort of like Paul Bunyan but always saved the day like Superman. We always thought my day was Jon Hamster.
To me he still is.

Edward (Etch) Andrajack Jr.
I wrote the following as a tribute to my dad. When we were little an he would come home from work with his boots covered with cement and mud. Us kids would take them off for him. I found myself doing the same thing about a month ago. I statred thinking about what those boots did and where they had been and thus I wrote the following.
Those Boots
Those boots were an example of what hard work meant.
Often they came home covered with mud and cement.
They were not just filled with feet that were tired and sore.
Those boots were filled with much, much, more.
Those boots dug footings, laid bricks, and built up walls.
They laid a foundation, built a family, and a home for us all.
In good times and bad times they stood proud and strong.
Those boots were there to lead us all along.
Those boots stood on the beach in Guam, Saipan, and Tinian.
They marched shoulder to shoulder with other brave men.
They sailed on ships and flew in planes.
Those boots served proud so our freedom might remain.
Those boots took us to church and taught us the rules.
They walked five kids through Catholic school.
They threw passes, caught strikes, and hit fly balls.
Those boots played games and made it fun for us all.
Those boots loved and cherished a beautiful wife.
They cared for her above all, sixty two years of their life.
They carried them both through life's mistakes.
Those boots were there for whatever it takes.
Those boots rested in the corner ready to use.
They took breaks for skates and tennis shoes.
They have walked now for many a mile.
Those boots retired while still in style.
Those boots never really seemed to wear or grow old.
They are sill walking now on streets of gold.
Those boots are the kind I want to get.
The question is: Will they fit?

Dear Anne & Family,
You are in our thoughts and prayers. Ed was such a great example of husband, father, friend. We'll always remember the friendship and compassion he showed our dad and family, while Ed would come to visit dad in the nursing home. What a great sense of humor, too; he will be remembered & missed dearly.

Pop, did allot of things for people, over the years, and many times, all he wanted was a good job and some gratitude. The good feeling that he received, inside, was payment enough and he will be rewarded for his generosity. It always seemed to me that he helped people, not just because he could but because he felt he should.
His legacy will live on in all of us.I'll miss you Pop.
Number three son.

Anne, I admire you for all the love and care you showed to Ed all his life. Ed, I miss you and the Sunday afternoons we spent with the kids in your flower filled yard. We all knew you were a soft hearted man always trying to hide that fact behind a gruff exterior. You were sort of a "salty dog" . You made the boys laugh and the girls blush. I love you much.

I won the jackpot when I got Ed for my father in-law.
Ed loved his family more than anything else. Anne was the love of his life and all of the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a testimony to that love.
He bravely fought this cancer that took his life, unwilling to admit defeat. It saddened us to watch him slip away from us, but I am so happy that he's not suffering any more.
It's going to be hard to go on, knowing that we can't enjoy his company any more, but I know that his love for us will always continue to be there.
Rest in peace Dad!
