Calling hours will be held on Thursday (May 10, 2012) from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Ashton passed away Monday (May 7, 2012) at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements are entrusted to Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Surviving is his wife Carol; a son Edward Ashton III of Albany; a daughter Lisa Phillips & her husband Mark of Albany; step-son Michael Ferris & his wife Erin; step-daughters Jodi Ferris & her companion Steve Rand and Stacey Barney & her husband Doug all of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Chandler & Carson Barney, Brandon Ferris, Morgan Gagnon, Gracelind, Greta & Graeah Ferris and Lexah Rose Pyskaldo. He was predeceased by his sister Catherine Ashton and a brother Charles Ashton.

Ed was born on July 21, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY, a son of the late Stanley & Rosemond (Ferguson) Ashton. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and enlisted in the US Navy from 1964 – 1968. After receiving his honorable discharge, he re-enlisted with the US Navy Reserves where he served an additional 25 years of dedicated service to his country. Although a previous marriage ended in divorce, he again found love when he married Carol J. Wright on June 15, 1991 in Ogdensburg, NY. Ed was employed 32 years as a machinist with Alcoa in Massena, and retired in 2002.

He was a member of the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge, Am Vets Post 19 and Past Commander of the Ogdensburg American Legion. He enjoyed boating, fishing, watching NASCAR, traveling, camping and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made in Ed's memory to the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Ogdensburg Police Benevolent Association.

"My deepest sympathies are with all of you. I remember how my parents, Art and Nancy Wilson spoke so fondly of Ed. My dad and Ed were both fellow veterans..." Mary Ellen (Wilson) Martin (Hammond, NY)
