(April 2nd, 1938 – March 3rd, 2012)
After a 3 year battle with colon cancer Ed passed away at home peacefully with his loving wife Margaret of 51 years by his side. Beloved father of Robert Flagg, Corinna Upshaw, Todd Flagg (Trina Torrance). Predeceased by son Randy Flagg 1993. Adoring Papa to Dustin Flagg, Braden Wright, Justin Flagg, Janaye Upshaw, Britain, Allias, Chaize, Declan and Jorja-Raine Flagg. Loving great papa to five, Austin Flagg, Emily Flagg, Kaelyn Hugginson, Colton Flagg and Jase Upshaw. Survived by sisters Marie Lord of St. Andrews N.B, Hilda Mott of Saint John, N.B, Juanita Fitzsimmons (Gene) of Grand Manan, N.B., Rose Flagg of Lachine, Quebec. Predeceased by parents Ernest and Flora Flagg, brothers Doug Flagg, Calvin and Raymond Laskey, sisters Gertrude Teakles and Eunice Flagg. Also survived by brothers and sister-in-laws Larry Fiander (Diane) of Utopia, N.B, Carl Fiander (Barbara) of Hartland N.B., Marilyn Livingston (Wayne) of St. Stephen, N.B. He will be sadly missed by his faithful canine companion Holly, his nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Ed was proud of his birthplace, Grand Manan, New Brunswick, telling many stories of his life as a young boy. He even made the newspaper on one occasion after falling off the smoke house. At the age of 15, after his mother's death he went to St. Andrews, N.B., to live with sisters. This is where he met and married his childhood sweetheart in 1960. In 1964 Ed ventured off to Oshawa, Ontario where Marg, Rob and Corinna joined him shortly after. Eventually blessed with two more sons Randy and Todd. After working 6 months for the Fittings he became employed by his lifelong employer General Printers. He worked hard and enjoyed driving the truck (up and down the road) always smiling and never complaining. He had a great relationship with co-workers and customers alike. Well respected and loved by all. Edward was an avid bowler for 45 years, played on several leagues. Loving the game, always trying his hardest and enjoying the friendship of all his bowling buddies. He made many lifelong friends and became famous and recognized as Fast Eddie Flaggstone with his shout of yabadabadoo. The family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate care Edward received from the wonderful people who touched his life at the cancer centre, especially Shelley, the Palliative care team, CCAC staff, Partners in Community nurses especially Joan, Jane and Pat, and Pro Home team. Ed's final days were made more comfortable by TLC rendered by special friend and Nurse Cheryl Waller. Kudos to Mike for the many hours spent holding Ed's hand you always had his back, Mike. Appreciation and gratitude goes out to other many wonderful friends who supported us over the last three years with visits, regular phone calls, taxi service and meals-on-wheels. Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Thursday, March 8th, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. and on Friday, March 9th from 12:00 p.m. until time of service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Cremation. Donations to the Durham Humane Society would be appreciated.
