Edward Heere Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 17, 2013.

Edward C. Heere, 68 of Redding, CT, beloved husband of Donna M. Heere, father of Kristel (Heere) Frimpter, father-in law to Sean Frimpter and "Papa" to his granddaughter, Coralyn Marie Frimpter, passed away at home early Thursday morning, May 16 after a very courageous 10 month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was predeceased by his daughter Samantha and father Adam.

Ed was born March 31, 1945 to Caroline (Baeck) Heere and the late Adam Heere in Reading, PA. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and from Albright College in Reading, PA in 1970 with a BA in Psychology, Philosophy and Sociology.

From 1970-1976 he was the General Manager of Hollywood Photo and Classic Photo in Allentown, PA. He was an Instructor of Photography at Albright College from 1973-1976

In 1976 Ed suffered a near fatal motorcycle accident which cost him his left leg. Always the fighter, Ed survived and proceeded to pursue his career in the photo industry and then start many successful computer businesses in Connecticut.

From 1977-1981 Ed was Vice President of Marketing for Beseler Photo Marketing in Florham Park, NJ, where he met his future wife, Donna. From 1981-1986 he became the Vice President of Marketing and Product Development for Berkey, Inc., a NYSE listed company that manufactured, imported and distributed imaging, electronic, video and photographic products.

A pioneer in the PC industry, Ed designed, sourced, and imported one of the first IBM-compatible computer systems in early 1983, less than 2 years after IBM's introduction of the personal computer.

In 1987 he became the founder and President of AMSYS Computer, Inc in Ridgefield, CT, providing consulting, networking and internet services to the healthcare, legal, accounting, manufacturing and general business communities.

One of Ed's greatest business ventures was expanding into the medical software industry in 2003, by becoming the founder and CEO of CoActiv Medical in Ridgefield, CT, which develops, markets, installs and services digital radiography software and systems.
Chapter Chairman of the Western CT Chapter of the American Red Cross, Board of Directors of the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern CT, Director, Chairman of the Danbury Area Computer Society, Advisory Council to WCSU Board of Directors, the Ancell School of Business CEO forum, are a few of the organizations Ed volunteered his time for.

Ed loved to travel and spent at least 25 wonderful vacations with his family at their timeshare in the Bahamas at Harborside Resort which is associated with the world famous Atlantis in Nassau.

Ed always wished he could pursue a career as a mystery food critic, because he always loved to try and experience new foods and restaurants.

Besides his wife of 32 years, his daughter, his son-in-law and adored granddaughter, Ed is survived by his mother Caroline of Laureldale, PA, brothers Gerard (Sandy) Heere, Reinholds, PA, Bernard (Pat) Heere, Monmouth, OR, Leonard (Ruth) Heere, Williamsburg, VA, sisters Theresa Smith and Marcia Heere, Sinking Springs, PA. Also his mother-in-law
Doris Vander Veer, Sebastian, FL, brothers-in-law Gary (Lynne) Vander Veer, Hawthorne, NJ, Henry (Barbara) Vander Veer, Saddle Brook, NJ and several nieces and nephews.

Ed's family would like to express their grateful appreciation to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital for their for their kind, gentle and attentive treatment during these past months. It did not go unappreciated.

A celebration of Ed's life will be held Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Birchwood Condominium Clubhouse, 27 Crows Nest Lane, Danbury, CT 06810.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ed's name to Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western CT, 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury, CT 06810. Information and online condolences can be found at thegreenfuneralhome.com.

I am so sorry to learn of Mr. Heere's passing. I knew him as an innovator, a businessman and an extremely kind person. My business dealings with him were always beyond satisfactory, but Ed came to my rescue on several occasions during my initial foray into the digital imaging world. He loved to share his knowledge and be truly helpful, whether you bought his product or not. My life is richer for having known him.
