Edward Smoter "Eddy" passed away peacefully and was called to heaven on July 2nd, at the age of 82, with family by his side.
Eddy, beloved husband, is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Joanna, loving father to Urszula Aneta Diegel, (Terry) husband. Cherished brother-in-law to Zofia Fik (Walter), Dear brother of the late Mary, Stacia, Zofia, Ted, Walter, and Stanley. Survived by brother Henry. Respected and loved by many nieces, and nephews.

Eddy was a kind hearted and honorable man who loved his life and lived it with dignity, grace and compassion. He is a true inspiration to us all and his strength and wisdom will forever remain in our hearts. Eddy deeply loved his family and friends and was an inherent giver by nature and was always willing to help those in need and referenced quote "It's the Christian thing to do"

His most important role in life was his role as a father and husband. He was as a beacon of strength, and example of perseverance and hard work. Eddy and his wife came from simple beginnings and emigrated from Poland to provide a better life for his family and always stated be proud of where you came from, who you are today, and what you do, and be the best you can be. It is a testament of your character. Eddy was extremely proud of his only daughter Urszula Aneta and all her accomplishments and pursuing her Master's Degree in Nurse Anesthesia, and her marriage to Terry and gaining a wonderful son in law.

Eddy loved to ski, bicycle, and ballroom and Polka dance. But his passion was landscape and garden. Those who knew him would say his yard was cared for with same degree of perfection that he brought to his years at work with General Motors as a tool and die maker. Eddy was a devout catholic and a parishioner at St. Aidan for the past 30 years. Involved in many local charities, including the Red Cross, Catholic Social Services, and member of the Polish National Alliance, Polish Veterans Association and a UAW member.

Eddy was very proud to be an American citizen but he was also equally proud of his Polish heritage and kept a home with many polish traditions. One of those was the making his recipe of Polish Kielbasa. Many thought including Eddy, his recipe was superior to Kowalski Kielbasa and could teach them a thing or two about making quality Polish Kielbasa.

Eddy was amazing husband, father, friend, we are so honored and blessed to have had him in our life. His beautiful spirit will bless every day of our lives and his love will live eternally in all of us.

Eddy's family will receive friends and family on Sunday July 6, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48152. There will be a rosary on Sunday at 7:00 pm
Edward will lie in state from 9:00 am until mass at 9:30 am at St. Aidans Church, 17500 Farmington Road, Livonia MI, 48152
