Obituary

Edward Harold Walters, Sr., 83, husband of the late Eleanor Walters, passed away August 14, 2014. Born in Flemington, NJ, he was the son of the late Jack and Mildred Walters. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Worcester CL-144. He was awarded the Around the World Medal during the Korean War. Mr. Ed was a member of Raritan Township and Flemington Borough Fire Departments. He was one of the original members that started the Raritan Township Fire Department in 1958, with his last rank being Fire Chief. Edward Harold Walters, Sr., 83, husband of the late Eleanor Walters, passed away August 14, 2014.



Born in Flemington, NJ, he was the son of the late Jack and Mildred Walters.

He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Worcester CL-144. He was awarded the Around the World Medal during the Korean War.



Mr. Ed was a member of Raritan Township and Flemington Borough Fire Departments. He was one of the original members that started the Raritan Township Fire Department in 1958, with his last rank being Fire Chief. He was also active with the Civil Defense and served as Lieutenant with Flemington Auxiliary Police.



He was head of Maintenance for Fabri-Kal, Tenneco Plastics and Burroughs Corporation. After relocating to South Carolina in 1987, he took up a woodworking hobby constructing custom mailboxes, wind chimes and his famous puzzles.



Surviving are his son, Edward Harold Walters, Jr., and his wife Renee Walters of Clermont, FL; his daughter, Melissa Ann Walters, of Greenville; his sisters Elizabeth Burger, of Zellwood, FL and Harriet Price, of Tulsa, OK; his grandchildren Edward Harold Walters, III, Rebecca Lynn Marsh, Rachel Leigh Elenbaum, Tonya Kozak, Jacqueline Amanda Smith, Hope Jerrilyn Gisseman, Tatiana Ruth Taylor and Taylor E. Walters; six great grandsons and six great granddaughters.



Also surviving are his loving Amazon Parrots Dixie and Yankee.



Memorial services will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11:00am at The Mackey Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the service.
