Edward passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Love and Care Assisted Living Home in Surprise after a short illness.

Edward H. Wetjen was born January 5, 1915 to William and Anna (Borgelt) Wetjen on a farm northeast of Madison. He was baptized in 1915 by Pastor Fricke of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Madison. He attended elementary school at Madison County District 46 and was a May, 2001 graduate of Madison High School. He married Verna Kersten on December 16, 1940 at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Madison prior to serving 33 months in the pacific during WWII. Upon his discharge in 1945, He and Verna farmed southeast of Madison and in 1961 sold out and opened "Wetjen Implement", an Oliver farm equipment business in Norfolk. In 1968 they sold the business and moved to Pierce where he sold Farm Bureau insurance until he retired to Omaha in 1992 at the age of 77. After spending 10 years wintering with their many friends in Sun City, Arizona, they moved permanently to the Valley. In 2011 they moved to Amethyst Arbor Assisted living and recently Love and Care Assisted Living home until his death.

He and Verna traveled extensively by motor home, visiting 49 of the 50 states, and when home enjoyed making cookies for their friends. Ed's hobbies upon retirement were raising flowers and once tried his hand at acting. He earned many awards during his work life but was most proud of authoring and publishing his autobiography in 2009.

He is survived by wife Verna of 74 years, son Rick and wife Peggy of Kearney, Step-Grandchildren Chris and wife Cory Sintek of Fremont, Becky Sintek and Mike and wife Jennifer Sintek all of Omaha. Step-Great-Grandchildren, Brody, Carter, Morgan, and Ty. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families as well as friends all over the nation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and wives William (Katherine) and Archie (Irene) Wetjen and sisters and husbands Leona (Paul) Renner and Laura (Charles) Gross.

Arrangements under the direction of Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary & Cremation Center, Sun City, AZ.
