Edward Cyril Wynne, Age: 89, Beloved husband of Barbara Wynne , since 1998 of Glastonbury, Connecticut passed away on December 24, 2012 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on July 24, 1923 in Framingham, Massachusetts to the late Cyril Wynne and Louise French Wynne.
He graduated from Lawrenceville School in 1940 and went on to Yale University working for the Yale Daily News while there. In 1942, he became part of the war effort in Europe and was in the 82nd Airborne Division. He graduated from Yale University in 1947 and from Boston University Law School in 1950. He married Mary Louise Foss in Wayland, Massachusetts in 1950 and they moved to Connecticut when he took a job with the Ribicoff Law firm. Mary Lou's job as a nursery school teacher brought them to Glastonbury. He soon became entrenched in the town's local politics, a passion he would enjoy the rest of his life. He started the firm Wynne, Pontillo and Lynch and he served as Glastonbury Town Attorney for 17 years during the 1960's and 1970's. He also served as town attorney for the town of East Hampton and on the East Hampton water pollution authority.
He was a member of the First Church of Christ Congregational in Glastonbury for over 60 years, a membership that sustained him well. He also was a member of the Orchard Hill Pool Club for over 50 years. He was a member of the Republican town committee and attended the Lincoln Day Dinner every year. He was named Republican of the year in 1974.
Exercise was important to Ed. Running was a way for him to put his energy into something besides politics. He also enjoyed handball, racquetball and tennis. He took up hiking in his sixties and joined the Appalachian Mountain Club, a membership he kept well into his seventies. He also swam at the high school pool and exercised at the gym, his home away from home.
He married Barbara Tuttle in 1998, having lost his wife Mary Lou in 1992. Barbara had three grown children, Bob, Linda and Greg. Ed and Barbara travelled a bit in his later years, going to San Francisco, California to visit his father's roots with his sister Louise and her husband John. He also went to Sanibel Island, Florida and to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Barbara was the driving force, she being a strong traveller.
Many thanks to Hartford Hospital and the residents and staff at Mountain Laurel of Glastonbury.
Ed enjoyed the outdoors, spent his early adult years with his mother on Cape Cod and became a strong conservationist. He donated a large area of land to the Society for the Preservation of Cape Cod and the land subsequently was transferred to the Audubon Society of Massachusetts.

People were important to Ed. He loved stories about people and he had a good sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family. He leaves his wife Barbara; three children, Matthew Edward Wynne and his wife Veronique; his daughter, Jane Kelly; and his son, Timothy Davis Wynne. He also leaves behind his sister, Louise, and her husband, John Corbett of Brookline, Massachusetts; Barbara's children, and many nephews, nieces and step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at First Church of Christ Congregational in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery.
A memorial donation may be made in Ed's name to the Welles Turner Memorial Library or the First Church of Christ Congregational both in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
