Elaine A. Sicilian of Riverside CT formerly of Hartsdale NY peacefully passed away Sunday August 6, 2017 at 88 years of age. Elaine was born July 12, 1929 in the Bronx to the late James and Agnes (Gilmore) Spata.
Graduating as Valedictorian at Villa Maria Academy, Elaine was a lifelong learner. She married her husband Joe on April 1, 1951. In 1957 they moved to Hartsdale to raise their family. As she raised her family she opened her home to a total of 13 foster babies, most of whom were born drug addicted. She was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, Hartsdale, serving in a variety of service roles including Eucharistic Minister, Secretary to the Director of Religious Education, CCD Special Needs teacher and Lay Associate to the Franciscan Sisters of Peace. While living at Hill House in Riverside CT, she served as Vice President of the Hill House Association and discovered her passion and talent for painting. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children Joe Jr. (Elsa), Patricia (Louis) Alexander, Marianne (Ro) Oteri, Steven (Sharon), Lenore Powers, 11 Grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Patricia McQuade and James (Jill) Spata and sister in laws Marie Traetta and May Sicilian along with many nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her husband Joe in 2006.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday from 3-8PM at the Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday August 10, 2017 at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church, Hartsdale. A cremation will follow with future Inurnment at Ferncliff Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Franciscan Sisters of Peace 20 Ridge Street, Haverstraw, NY 10927.

Your mom was such a valiant women. Although we were neighbors for a short three years, I will never forget her; she was one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever known. I will miss her but will never forget her. I am sorry to have to miss

So Sorry to hear about Mrs. Sicilians passing. She was a wonderful woman, always had a wonderful smile on her face and always had nice things to say about everyone. No matter what time we rolled in she would always get up and cook something delicious for us. She will be missed by all!
