GALES FERRY – Eleanor G. Norman, 97, died peacefully at L&M Hospital in New London on Tuesday.
She was born in Groton on Oct. 23, 1919 to the late Thomas and Stella Henderson Sr. Eleanor became a Gales Ferry resident where she remained throughout her life. Out of high school she married her first husband, Robert E. Holt who died aboard a submarine in 1942. Eleanor again married in 1945 to Irving H. Norman to whom she was wed for over 60 years before his passing.
During WWII, Eleanor worked at E.B. to assist in the war effort and upon its ending, became a homemaker lovingly caring for and deeply devoted to her husband Irv and sons Barry and Richard and daughter, Patricia. She was a member of the Book Club at Gales Ferry Library and was an avid reader devouring books one after the other. She loved traveling with her husband, especially to Europe and Alaska. She was a faithful congregant at Gales Ferry United Methodist Church.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Barry, a sister; Helen Norman, 5 grandchildren; Keith, Scott and Michael Holt and Katelyn and Laura Norman, 3 great-grandchildren; Maura, Bronagh and Eoghan Holt, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both husbands, a son; Richard H. Norman, a daughter; Patricia C. Norman, and 7 siblings.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 1:00pm at Avery Stoddard Cemetery in Gales Ferry, CT. A Memorial Reception will follow at the Gales Ferry United Methodist Church, 10 Chapman Ln, Gales Ferry, CT 06335. There are no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made in honor of Eleanor to the Patricia C. Norman Scholarship Fund c/o Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, 68 Federal St., New London, CT 06320.

Snookey was the kind of person that always made you feel welcome. My children have sweet memories of family get-togethers when their grandparents, Bob and Tuey (Stella) Trask would bring them along to Henderson family picnics.

So very sorry to hear about Eleanor,s passing will miss seeing here come into our shop with her big silver Lincoln in which see always made sure all the service was done.
