BRAUN, Eleanor Currie, 85, of Midlothian, Va., departed this life from her home to join her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 after a long pulmonary illness. She was the daughter of George and Caroline Currie and was preceded in death by the love of her life, Kenneth Braun. They were together 56 years and she has sorely missed him. She is survived by four devoted and perfect sons, KG (Deb), Doug (Terry), Steven (Suzi) and Chris (Robin) Braun; all of these daughters-in-law were her favorites! She also had nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with another on the way. She also survived by a sister, Barbara Nitardy in Vero Beach, Fla. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on September 10, 1928. She survived the Great Depression, World War II and the Korean Conflict in the early days of her life. After he came home from WWII, she and Ken raised their family in Levittown, Long Island, N.Y., and then chose to move to lovely, warmer Midlothian in July 1973. She loved to cook banana bread, host big Thanksgiving dinners, sew, knit and was an avid tennis player until the age of 70. She enjoyed and struggled with the game of golf, her computer, cell phone and houseplants. She made many friends in the Salisbury neighborhood over the 41 years she lived there. She was an awesome friend to all her "daughters" and this family will truly miss her sense of humor, her laugh and all that she did for us. She was the matriarch!

A memorial service will be held at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody's Funeral Home at 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va., on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served by the family after the service at Eleanor's home. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association of Richmond or the charity of your choice.
