Maj. (Ret.). Elipio D. Duran, 81, passed away February 6, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Tanny Duran; brother: Jesse Duran; children: Judith Duran (aka Duran-Wing), Patrick Duran (Diana), Tammera Duran, and Rebecca Duran; grandchildren: Robert Duran, Barret Duran, Hadley Duran, Caleigh Duran (Fiancé Grant Brown), Tara Duran, and TannyAnn Duran; great-grandson: Anthony Barson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Duran was born on November 24, 1931 in Fountain, Colorado. He was a graduate of Fountain High School.
Shortly after graduating High School he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 23 years. During his service he was in the Korea War and the Vietnam War. Throughout his military career he was the recipient of numerous metals and honors including a Purple Heart. He also obtained his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. After retiring from the U.S. Army at the rank of Major, he began a career in the United States Postal Service. During his 22 years with the USPS he was the Station Manager at the Ivy Wild, Rockrimmon, and Templeton Gap Stations.
After retiring from the USPS, he spent most of his time attending his grandchildren's sporting events, fishing, hunting, and at his summer home in Texas Creek, Colorado. Elipio was an avid fan of all of the Colorado Sports teams, especially the Denver Broncos.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Terreseta Duran; and 4 siblings: Estella Duran, Cypriano Duran, Arthur Duran, and Mary Duran.
A Viewing will be held at 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 13th at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, Colorado. A Rosary will immediately follow at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, February 14th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Ave., Colorado Springs, Colorado. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
