Elisa Isabel Kenney Blacka, 67, died at her home May 21, 2017, after a brief illness.
Born January 26, 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William Cecil and Frances Glatke Kenney.
She is survived by her husband, Jack R. Blacka; daughter, Holly Davies and her husband, Brandon of Stuarts Draft; son, Patrick Shipp and his wife, Karen of Virginia Beach; sister, Linda Anderson of Winston Salem, NC; brother, Billy Kenney of Charlotte, NC; and grandchildren, Isabel Misick, Jacob Davies, Jeff Steger, Nick and Preston Fortin, Nathan and Emmy Blacka and Caitlin and William Shipp.
Elisa worked with her husband, Jack, for twenty years at Shenandoah Acres Resort. There she was both a leader and mother of 100s of local youth working their first summer jobs. After a brief retirement, she could not ignore the call to continue working with area youth. In 2007, she began working at Waynesboro City Public Schools. From substitute teacher, to librarian's aide, to Administrative Secretary at WHS, her positive attitude and radiant smile was felt throughout the school system.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway.

My first job was at the acres and I worked with the Blacka's every day. Elisa's smile and kindness were infectious. She taught me the work ethic I have today and to always smile and it will show through your words and your actions. What a beautiful soul. Prayers and hugs to the Blacka family. Sincerely, Heather Hoffman Welcher

You are such a genuinely kind woman, and your death was (at least to us at school) so sudden. I hope you know how treasured you are, how heart-warming your caring smile always was. I wish I'd gotten to know you better. You will be missed by everyone, literally everyone at the school. (((hugs))) for your family.

I am very sorry for your lost. I can imagine how heartbreaking it is to lose a loved one, but its uplifting to know that God promises us in Isaiah 65:17 a near future in which not only we wont feel this horrid pain in our hearts when we lose a loved one, but we wont even remember how it felt.

I had the pleasure of working with Lisa Blacka for several years at Waynesboro High School. She maintained the perfect balance of kindness and compassion with tough love and high expectations without exhibiting judgement which made her popular with the students at Waynesboro High School. You always knew Lisa genuinely cared for the students and staff of W.H.S. and her motivation was the lives she could touch, not the paycheck that she earned. She will be greatly missed at Waynesboro High School. I pray that her sweet smile, tender heart, and generous spirit will long be remembered and duplicated by many!
