Elizabeth Jordan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2017.

Elizabeth “Beth” Cooley Jordan passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2017 in Atlanta, GA after living eight courageous and inspiring years with brain cancer. Beth was born on December 9th, 1964 at Emory Hospital, the only girl, and middle of three children. Beth went to Lakeside High School (1982) and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business with a B.B.A. in Management Information Systems (1986). While at Georgia, Beth was a member of the varsity cheerleading squad, Alpha Omicron Pi, Golden Key National Honor Society, and Miss Georgia Football Court. She also won a scholarship as Miss Georgia National Teenager.

Beth had a successful business career in consulting before becoming the mother of three beautiful kids. Beth excelled as a mom, wife, and friend to all. She was an active member of Northside United Methodist Church, and her compassion for others led to many philanthropic activities including Board of Director positions at Refugee Resettlement Services of Atlanta and the Fugees Academy. Beth loved to lift others up, had a servant’s heart and was always up for an adventure. In November 2017, Beth will be honored as one of the Winship 80 which will celebrate 80 individuals or groups with significant influence on Winship Cancer Center’s growth into a transformative cancer center over the past eight decades.

Beth is survived by her husband, Greg, and their three children, Bryan, Rachel, and Barrett, along with her parents, Jerry and Joy Cooley, and her brothers, Jay Cooley (Michelle) and Scott Cooley.

A memorial service will be held for Beth will be held in the sanctuary at Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta (2799 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta GA 30305) on October 20th, 2017 at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Jordan Family Brain Tumor Initiative, Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University, 1762 Clifton Rd., Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA, 30322; or online at http://winshippgp.kintera.org/jordan

I met Beth with Tricia Igleheart in March of 2017 when she came over to a mutual friend's and spoke with Tricia over an hour concerning brain cancer for Tricia had been diagnosed in the Fall of 2014. Tricia and I were so touched by her openess and bravery and positive outlook. I saw Beth again at Tricia's memorial in April of this year. Such a lovely person and still working hard for herself and others afflicted with Glioblastoma. What a treasure we have lost. My deepest sympathy goes out to all her family.
Sincerely,
Teresa Henry

Beth took an interest in me when I purchased a dress from her to wear in the Miss Lakeside pageant and she coached me on walking in heels and stuff like that - she had been Miss Lakeside in an earlier year and, let's face it, she was the perfect example of beautiful womanhood - smart, caring, thoughtful and beautiful inside and out. I hung on her every word. The big memory I carry around with me from the Miss Lakeside event is not about whether I won or lost - my memory is that she took an interest in me during that moment in my life - I'll never forget that she came backstage before the second half of the competition and gave me a few pointers and smiled that 1000 Wattt smile and squeezed my hand. She made me feel like I could do anything! She was one in a million - When she spoke to you and encouraged you, you felt you were the only person in the room! I only knew Beth mostly from a distance - but my life is richer for having had just a little bit of her sunshine shine my way. I am so sorry for your loss. Patricia Belcher Eastwood

Beth, you were and will always be a beloved friend and classmate. I am so glad that I was able to see you at our 35th reunion this year even though the doctors told you not to go. You will always hold a warm spot in my heart as well as everyone who knew you. God speed!

Beth, among the many things I will always cherish and remember most about you, is that almost no matter the circumstance, and particularly as you faced your own health challenges...was that ever present smile. And even when others were facing the comparatively trivial, from you came the encouraging word. The world is a lesser place without you. Bad things sadly happen to good people, you are again proof that doesn't mean you give in to whatever is trying to harm, injure or take you. Admired and loved, here and now in heaven above.
