Elizabeth Jerry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2017.

COLUMBIA – A Celebration of Life Service for Elizabeth Dennis Jerry, 77, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, 3401 Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29204 with Rev. Zach Dillard officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the Mouse Trap, 2711 Middleburg Dr., Columbia, SC 29204.
Mrs. Jerry was born July 4, 1939 in Old Orangeburg Hospital, SC and grew up on a farm in Cameron. She passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017. She was the daughter of the late William Albert Dennis and Emma Elizabeth "Bessie" Holman Dennis. She graduated from Cameron School. A former Miss Calhoun County, her career in music began while in high school when she was organist at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Piano Performance from USC in 1961. Her first teaching job was in Lexington Elementary School, and she also taught piano lessons for many years in her home. She was a member of Trenholm United Methodist Church.
Besides being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was the heart and soul of the Mouse Trap, the restaurant she owned with her husband, Bill. She created home cooked meals using her mother's recipes. Her greatest joy was making people happy with her chocolate cream pie and many other favorites. In addition to making others happy, her simple pleasures in life included working in her yard, playing the piano and caring for animals. She had a smile that could light up a room, and made everyone she met feel loved.
Mrs. Jerry is survived by her husband, William Andrew "Bill" Jerry; son, William Andrew "Andy" (Leslie) Jerry, Jr. of Columbia; daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Thomas) Thornton of Charleston and Christine (Rick) Pool of Columbia; grandchildren, Olivia Thornton, Grayson Pool, James Pool, and Nicholas McCourt.
Special thanks are extended to Wendy Kelly and the nurses of Agape Hospice for such wonderful care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212 or Pets, Inc., 300 Orchard Dr., West Columbia, SC 29170.

Wishing the Jerry family a day of happiness as you remember your beautiful wife and mother. I still think about her often especially when I sit down to play the piano. I think, I need Mrs Jerry to play this so I can hear it. She was a warm and wonderful person and I know you miss her today as much as you alway have. Grief never ends it just becomes a part of who you are. Know today that the people who knew her will always remember her with love and admiration. I certainly do.

Dear Bill and family, your wife and mother was my piano teacher. More that that, she was my therapist at a time when I needed her love and guidance but mostly her listening ear. She greeted me every week with her beautiful, warm smile and was encouraging and loving to me always. I will remember seeing Andy and Mary Elizabeth walk through the piano room after school and I was always greeted by your happy Cocker Spaniel whose name I believe was Happy! And I remember the arrival of Christine! There was nothing like your mother's "Blondies" and she shared them with me every time she made them and I looked forward to them every recital! Your mother taught my siblings as well and once told my mother that my brother John should stop piano because he started to itch every time he sat down to play! We enjoyed laughing about that. Your mother meant more to me than I can ever tell you. She was a very special person and will remain in my heart always. My loving thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Bill I was deeply saddened when I heard of your loss . Those of us who were fortunate to have known Elizabeth were enriched by her kindness, generosity and a beautiful smile
that could light up any room. Few couples have the kind of relationship that you and Elizabeth had. May your lifetime of love and memories keep her forever in your heart.
Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Her illuminating smile and kind precious soul have enveloped Heaven, surely the Angels sang their sweetest song as she entered the Gates. Blessed are we are to have known her, felt her warmth of compassion and love, comforted by her hugs and enjoyed many of her homemade meals. All the love she gave away whether to people or her beloved animals, may you all feel the comfort of it as it surrounds you in your time of sorrow. Miss Elizabeth was surely everyone's #1, she will live on in our hearts.

Elizabeth has been one of the few to exhibit "kindness to humanity" as it should be shown. Whether it was a community of feral cats, or one individual in need of "a hug"... all were created equal in Elizabeth's eyes. She always accepted the challenge to make others lives better.
She was another "SWEET THANG" to pass through our lives. Heaven is now happier and kinder because of Elizabeth. God bless her soul.
