Elizabeth Holshouser Obituary

Born in Cherryville, NC on April 9, 1936 to Cecil and Ruby Jarrett, Elizabeth "Izzie" passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Hospice in Newton, NC.

Izzie graduated from Newton-Conover High School and Queens College in Charlotte, NC. She was formerly office manager at B. Brown & Associates in Newton. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton where she was a long time member of the choir and was involved in volunteer work there. She was also active with Meals-on-Wheels and the Catawba Regional Hospice of Newton over the years. She enjoyed playing bridge with many good friends and watching the Atlanta Braves play ball.

She is survived by her husband John W. Holshouser of Newton and five daughters: Norma Matto (Rosalino; children John, Anna) of Greensboro, NC. Lesley Burnham (Brian; children Davis, Avery, Courtney) of Summerfield, NC. Elinor Danford (Tom; children Caroline, Sam, Alexandra) of Shaker Heights, OH. Sarah Holshouser (Paul Brinkman) of Raleigh, NC. Frances Hymiller (Chip; children Abbey, Andrew) of Raleigh, NC.

She is survived by her brother Cecil "Sonny" Jarrett Jr. (Leanne) of Columbia, SC; and sisters Sara Leonard (Jerry) of Charlotte, NC; Martha "Marcie" Martin (Grover, dec) of Aurora, IL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Pinkney "Butch" Jarrett (Nancy of Austin, TX) and sister Frances "Kitty" Adair.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church located at 701 North Main Street Newton, NC 28658 at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 with Reverend Connie Button officiating. Reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Chapel Restoration Fund 701 North Main Street Newton, NC 28658.
